The UN Human Rights Committee issued today (Sept. 10, 2018) a new statement in which it reaffirms that Brazil’s has to ensure former President Lula’s candidacy in the 2018 elections, as determined in the decision issued on Aug. 17, 2018.
The statement recalled General Comment n. 31, approved by the Human Rights Committee, according to which “all branches of government (executive, legislative and judicial), and other public or governmental authorities, at whatever level – national, regional or local – are in position to engage the responsibility of the State-party.”
The new statement issued by the UN Human Rights Committee shall be attached to the appeal that has already been filed before the Federal Supreme Court last Saturday (Internal Interlocutory Appeal on Pet. 7841).
