About the decision announced by the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) of denying habeas corpus to former President Lula, his defense attorneys clarify that:

“The Federal Constitution ensures former President Lula the guarantee of presumption of innocence and the right to appeal against his illegitimate conviction without the earlier execution of the sentence.

The defense shall use the applicable legal means to see Lula’s fundamental guarantees prevail, since he cannot be deprived of his freedom based on a conviction for unlawful acts he’s never committed in a case marked by evident nullities.”
